Children are precious. Jesus welcomed them warmly—and so do we! All of our children's ministries are built upon the understanding that God has given parents the opportunity to have the greatest impact on their sons' and daughters' spiritual journeys. We want to inspire, equip and supplement parent-led, family-centered discipleship.
Children are vital to the church and the church is vital to our children. A team of nursery volunteers is ready to welcome, love, play with and watch over newborns to age 4. From age 4 to 4th grade, we offer Life Lessons partway into the service. During Life Lessons, they are cared for by volunteers who feel called to nourish your child’s relationship with God and His people. The children hear Bible teaching or missionary testimony and are given time to create, memorize scripture, play, and interact together.
Children, age 10 and up, participate in worship. They are climbing into their faith as they grow and follow Jesus. For this reason, we call our 5th and 6th graders “Climbers.” Climbers are given prepared clipboards to help them stay engaged during worship and that encourage their creativity. The whole congregation celebrates with them in their participation with us. All 7th through 12th graders are welcome in our youth ministry program on Sunday evenings and special events (see Vine Youth).
In addition to Sunday morning gatherings, Life Lessons and Climbers age children enjoy planned activities throughout the year including hikes, mission projects, cookie baking, bonfires, swimming, and craft days.
We hope to cultivate habits in our children which prepare them for life-long devotion to God and service to others. We believe kids learn about worshiping God naturally when watching and participating with adults. Many of our older children and youth have responsibilities during worship which they are quite happy to carry out! They are helpers in the nursery, with media and audio, as readers, as greeters, as hospitality team leaders, and more. They can feel a genuine place in the body of Christ—and in their family at The Vine.
